Immigration Physicals at AFC East Cobb

What are
immigration physicals?

Immigration physicals, or immigration medical exams, are required of anyone who wants a green card (a permanent resident card allowing a foreign national to live and work long-term in the United States) and/or US citizenship.

To pass an immigration physical, you need to be in generally good health and meet specific guidelines. You won’t pass an immigration physical if you have:

  • A communicable disease of public health significance

  • Lack of proof of required vaccinations

  • A physical or mental disorder that includes harmful behavior

  • Drug abuse or addiction

  • If you meet the USCIS guidelines, you can proceed with your green card and/or citizenship application.

What should I bring to an immigration physical?

The AFC East Cobb team recommends bringing the following documents to your immigration physical:

  • Passport or other government-issued identification

  • Immunization or vaccination records

  • Copy of your medical records

  • Prior chest X-rays (if applicable)

  • This paperwork makes it easier for the team to complete and submit your visa application.

What to Expect at Your Immigration Physical Exam

Your doctor will order a chest X-ray and blood tests. Your physical and mental disposition will be assessed through X-rays, blood tests, and diagnostic observation. In addition to your Form I-693, bring your medical and vaccination records for the doctor. If you don’t have proof of your vaccinations, you can request a blood test to prove immunization.
